Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging

Our employees are the power behind Hillrom’s achievements

We maintain a culture that respects people, creates an inclusive workplace and celebrates diversity. Because when we feel like we truly belong, our ability to do great things becomes limitless. It allows us to share different perspectives and ideas that lead to better decisions. Those decisions lead to innovations that enhance outcomes for patients and their caregivers around the world.

Including and supporting the voices of 10,000 Hillrom associates to touch the lives of 7 million people every day isn’t optional. It’s who we are, and fundamental to our success.

CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion™

In 2020, Hillrom CEO John Groetelaars joined more than 1,000 CEOs who have signed the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion™ pledge—committing himself and Hillrom to advance diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Leadership Diversity

Creating environments of inclusive, respectful behavior and belonging comes from the top. Our Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging Council includes our CEO, Chief Human Resources Officer, and high-level leaders from around the world.

Together, we have:

  • Achieved 36% representation of women on our Board of Directors, and an Executive Leadership Team that is 47% female and 20% ethnic minorities
  • Been honored to participate in Catalyst CEO Champions for Change, a group of 50+ CEOs pledging to advance more women into all levels of leadership
  • Launched six employee resource groups that serve the needs of more than 2,500 Hillrom employees around the world

In addition to strong anti-harassment and equal employment opportunity polices, we require and offer annual diversity and inclusion training. Our Conscious Inclusion workshop (to raise awareness of unconscious biases) and Preventing Discrimination, Harassment and Retaliation e-learning help ensure that all employees work in a healthy, safe and productive environment.

Improved diversity is also apparent in the hiring process. All recruitment programs require open searches to include:

  • Diversity among candidates and interviewers
  • Dedicated in-house recruiters who develop relationships with institutions and educate them on Hillrom and its career opportunities
  • On-site and virtual visits to meet potential job candidates

We take hiring diversification even further by pooling talent, in part, from the following institutions and organizations:

  • Historically black colleges and universities—Howard University and North Carolina A&T State University
  • National Society of Black Engineers—Whose mission is to help black engineers excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community
  • Society of Women Engineers—The world’s largest advocate for women in engineering and technology
  • Lucas Group, RecruitMilitary,—organizations that connect employers with veteran talent

Inclusive Workplace

We encourage our associates to take part in our Employee Resource Groups, a cornerstone of our diversity, inclusion and belonging strategy. These are company-sponsored and employee-led opportunities to interact with Hillrom’s leaders and colleagues who share similar life experiences or backgrounds.

Our employee benefits, policies and personalized support tools reflect our investment in diversity, inclusion and belonging. Beyond health and other insurance coverage and retirement savings plans, other benefits include generous adoption/parental leave, flexible time-off, breast milk shipping, and transgender medical coverage depending on your region.

Hillrom’s human capital programs focus on diversity in career advancement, including:

  • Sponsorship Program—Executive Leadership Team members sponsor diverse talent to ensure visibility and growth
  • Growth Action Teams—Opportunities for a specific diverse group of employees to take on a key business project to solve

Our commitment is fortified by our anti-discrimination and anti-harassment policies, which are highlighted and described in our Global Code of Conduct.

Supplier Diversity

Hillrom is focused on growing supplier spending with businesses classified as small, small disadvantaged, women, veteran, service-disabled veteran and HUBZone.

We are committed to diversifying our supplier mix with additional spending goals and by attending targeted tradeshows such as the NMSDC and LGBT conferences.
